Is it me or is this franchise overly complicated?

Ok so stick with me. I am not including I'll Always Know or the TV series.

Here is the timeline...

Past: Ben Willis lived and worked at Tower Bay Resort in the Bahamas with his wife, Sarah, and their two children: Will and Susie.

At some point Sarah is murdered in room 201, likely by Ben.

Ben took Susie and Ben and settled down in Southport, North Carolina.

Ben became a fisherman, he owned a boat, 'Sweet Susie'.

1992: David Egan and Elsa Shivers graduated from Southport High School

A some point before the summer of 1995: David Egan and Susie Willis started dating and got engaged.

July 4th 1995: David Egan and Susie Willis are in a car accident. David survived. Susie perished.

Summer 1996: Julie James, Helen Shivers, Ray Bronson, Barry Cox, and Max Neurick graduated from Southport High School.

July 4th 1996: Helen Shiver is crowned Croaker Queen. The group of four friends: Helen, Julie, Ray, and Barry, go to the beach to celebrate and become intoxicated. While driving around Reaper's Curve Ray hits a man walking on the road. Instead of calling for emergency services they tie up (the still living man) and dump his body off the dock into the ocean...

The man they hit is Ben Willis, who was walking on the road after killing David Egan as revenge for his daughter's death.

Three weeks later: David Egan's body washed up near Miller's Dock.

Sometime between Summer 1996 - Summer 1997: Ray poses as Billy Blue and enters into a very inappropriate relationship with David's older sister, Missy Egan.

July 4th 1997: Southport Massacre

Ben Willis enacts his revenge for the second summer in a row. He murders Helen, and her older sister Elsa Shivers. Barry Cox. Max Neurick (for... reasons?) and Officer Caporizo.

In a confrontation with Julie, Willis loses his hand then subsequently falls overboard his ship. His body was not recovered.

At some point: Will Benson begins attending university in Boston, Mass. and befriends Julie James, her roommate Karla Wilson, and Karla's boyfriend Tyrell Martin.

July 4th 1998: Another Massacre...

Karla wins four tickets to stay at the Tower Bay Resort from a local radio show that called her and asked the capital of Brazil. Apparently it's Rio...

Karla, Tyrell, Julie, and Will take a vacation! Unfortunately, they arrive to a mostly deserted resort at the beginning of the storm season.

Murders being to occur. Victims include: Dave. Derick. Mr Brooks. Estes. Olga. Titus. Nancy. and tragically Tyrell Martin.

Both killers, Ben Willis and his son Will Willis (aka Will Benson, get it? Benson... Will Ben's son) also lost their lives.

Kill Count (not including killers): 8

Julie and Karla survived. Oh and Ray showed up too... for reasons... he also lives.

*Karla would like it noted that it did not rain the entire time.

Will Benson really got student loan debt just to enact his father's revenge. I wonder, do they still get an employee discount at the Tower Bay Resort? Or did they pay for all that too?

Past: Stevie is in rehab.

July 4th 2024: friends Ava Brucks, Danica Richards, Teddy Spencer, Milo Griffin, and Stevie Ward are at Reaper's Curve at night. Teddy causes a truck, (owned by Judah Gillespie) driven by Sam cooper to swerve and go over the cliff. They do call the police but promptly leave the scene of the crime and all agree to never speak of it.

Between Summers: Stevie begins working with Ray Bronson.

July 4th 2025: Yet another Massacre

The friend group reunites in Southport, NC.

Murders ensue. Victims include: true crime podcaster Tyler Trevino, town pastor Judah Gillespie, Milo, Teddy and Grant Spencer, Wyatt (Danica's fiance), a gardener.

Kill count (killer not included): 7?

Ray tells the surviving girls: Stevie, Ava, and Danica, to escape onto Teddy's yacht. Turns out Stevie knew Sam from rehab and was in love with him. She's the killer! In the ensuing fight Danica and Stevie are both injured and thrown overboard.

Ava realizes Ray is the second killer! She ends up shooting and killing him.

Ava, Danica, and Stevie all survive.

All the men die and all the women survive. Kool!

Oh Julie James is in this for reasons...
